Dr. Art Hister looks over his notes at the TB Vets Breathe of Hope Gala.

Dr. Art Hister kept the crowd laughing as the MC of our 3rd Annual Breath of Hope Legacy Gala.

Judy Saunders talks about the respiratory problems she has struggled with her whole life.

Ron Goyette and Calvyn Martens explain the definition of "cockatouche". It's the headdress worn by Los Vegas-style showgirls.
On September 20, 2008, over 300 guests joined us at the Plaza 500 Hotel in Vancouver for a Gala evening to raise funds for respiratory equipment for BC hospitals. Because of our guests' generosity, the 3rd Annual Breath of Hope Legacy Gala raised $28,000 to help BC breathe.
Dr. Art Hister, who hosts the radio show, "House Calls with Dr. Art Hister", was the MC for the evening. Dr. Hister kept the crowd laughing, but was completely serious when he spoke of the need for up-to-date respiratory equipment in hospitals. Dr. Hister, who suffers from asthma himself, knows as both a patient and a doctor how important it is for doctors to have the best tools available to help their patients.
No one knows the importance of respiratory equipment more than our guest speaker, Judy Saunders. Judy was born 14 weeks premature. At birth, she weighed just 1 pound, 11 ounces. She was born with several holes in her heart, and her lungs were just 40% of normal size. Throughout her life, medical breakthroughs have helped Judy, whose mother was told wouldn't survive, go from struggling to walk a few steps, to traveling to Scotland, Cancun and beyond. A specialized piece of equipment, funded by TB Vets, let doctors diagnose the asthma that was crippling her. Today, while she still has some health problems, Judy is much healthier, and is attending school, working and traveling.
Heddy Bing, of Urban Spaces, lent her talents to decorate the Gala. A fantastic team of volunteers helped her set up, and move volunteers made sure that the evening ran smoothly. The evening featured a raffle, a silent auction, and a skit lead by comedian Calvyn Martens.
This event would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Our sponsors covered the costs of the evening, allowing all of the funds raised at the Gala to go directly to helping BC breathe.
